MANDALUYONG City outclassed Pateros, 99-90, to complete a six-game sweep of the elimination round and
clinch top seed in the South in the 2017 Metro Basketball Tournament (MBT) seniors competition at the
Parañaque Sports Complex.
Jomil Reyes, Cyrus Tabi and Prince Liquinan combined for 54 points for Mandaluyong, which was
never seriously threatened by Pateros in the final day of the elimination round of the event organized
by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and presented by “Mobile App ng Bayan” Barangay 143.
Reyes finished with 19 points, Tabi added 18 points and Liquinan contributed 17 points for
the Johnedel Cardel-mentored Tigers, who clinched an outright semis berth with twice-to-beat advantage.
So dominant was Mandaluyong that it found no need to field its top two players, Joseph
Gabayni and Sandy Ceñal, in the game and still won with plenty to spare.
Mandaluyong also made 12 of its 28 three-points against only 2-of-10 by Pateros. The Tigers
also had 10 more assists, 24-14.
Rickson Gerero paced Pateros with 28 points, followed by Jovito Tabasan with 20 points and 11
rebounds and Eron Go with 20 points.
