UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas displayed no-quit attitude to eliminate Far Eastern University-Diliman, 81-80, and advance to the next step-ladder phase of the UAAP juniors basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym yesterday.

The Baby Tamaraws were looking to extend their reign by building a 13-point lead with four minutes to go when the Tiger Cubs scored 14 straight points capped by a Rayjhun Baquial midrange jumper to grab the upperhand, 80-79.

After Kobe Palencia split his charities to give UST the slimmest of margins, FEU tried to turn things around in the final 8.3 seconds but could not buy a basket.

The Tiger Cubs have swept the Baby Tamaraws in all of their three meetings this season.

UST will face twice-to-beat National University in the second step-ladder semis match at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre. The semis and the Finals will be aired live on S+A 23.
Ateneo is waiting in the wings after completing a 14-game elimination sweep.
Looking like goners after winning only two games in the second round, the Tiger Cubs are suddenly back to being a scary team.
UST made it to the semifinals after nipping Adamson in overtime last Wednesday.
