ST. THERESA’S School-Novaliches and Filipino Basketball Academy led the march of the favorites at the
start of the Basic Sports, Inc. (BSI) basketball tournament at the Sacred Heart Academy covered
courts in Novaliches, Quezon City over the weekend.
St. Theresa’s defeated School of St. Anthony School, 68-55, with Gab Sanchez leading all
scorers in the 13 years old and under encounter.
Sanchez was named as “Best Player of the Game.”
Equally impressive was FBA, which completed a twinkill in this four-division developmental
tournament hosted by Sacred Heart Academy of Novaliches, thru school owners Josephine and Henry
Zabarte and supported by Pocari Sweat, Semreh Tapes, FBA, CMJ Garments and Fix and Care.
FBA outsteadied St. Anthony, 75-70, in the 15 years old and under class; and Our Lady of
Lourdes Technical College, 99-76, in the 19 years old and under division.
Topscoring for FBA’s winning effort are Chino Himala, who scattered 14 points against St.
Anthony; and Pangan, who poured 11 points against OLLTC.
Himala and Pangan also romped away with “Best Player of the Game” honors.
Basic Sports, Inc. tournament director Mark Ballesteros said the four-division competition
hopes to provide a venue for aspiring young players.
“We’re happy to be a part of the development of these young players. It is good to see them
practice what they have learned through regular training and exposure playing against their
counterparts from other schools,” said Ballesteros, also the head coach of newly-crowned Quezon City
Athletic Association (QCAA) champion SHAN Bruins.
(SHAN brought down St. Vincent School of Quezon City , 85-68, to capture the title in the
QCAA basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gym in E.Rodriguez Ave., Quezon City).
BSI commissioner Andrew de la Cruz said the 16 participating schools are Our Lady of
Fatima University-Quezon City, Mary the Queen College, School of St. Anthony, Mysthical Rose School of
Caloocan, St. Mary’s School of Novaliches, St.Theresa’s School of Novaliches, Mother of Perpetual
Help of Quezon City, St. Rapaela Mary Academy, Immaculate Mother Academy, Escuela de Sophia, College
of St. Catherine, St. Dominic Savio College, St. Vincent de Paul Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes
Technical College, Sacred Heart and FBA.
There are four age categories: 19-under, 17-under, 15-under and 13-under.
