PNB captures PBL title

PNB Savings Bank emerged as the  champion in the 2018 Philippine Bankers League  powered by: HoopsNation Manila basketball tournament.

Led by Finals MVP Kris Robles and Ryan dela Cruz, PNB brought down RCBC Savings Bank, 89-79, in their winner-take-all title showdown  to capture the title before a  big weekend crowd  at the Meralco gym  in Ortigas Ave., Pasig.

Robles finished with a double-double of 20 points  and 12 rebounds, while  De la Cruz added 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists for PNB, which outscored  RCBC, 53-38,  in the last two quarters in the tournament  sponsored by  Gatorade, Diamond Sneaks, JJ  Autoworkz, ATV Mountain Top, Benedict Rosopa Photography, Team Sure Win and  Stance Athletics.

Robles scored eight points in the fourth quarter alone, including a driving layup to open the  fourth period  and back-to-back three-point  shots that put PNB ahead by 15 points twice, the last at 85-70 with  2:29 left.
Tristan Cosino carried the fight for RCBC with 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting, followed by Jefferson Obico with 12 points.            
Overall, PNB  had 10 more attempts than RCBC, hitting 31-of-76 shots  for  40 percent compared  to  RCBC’s  24-of-66 for 36  percent.
PNB also had more rebounds, 54-37,  more assists, 14-13, and more steals, 13-7.
In the battle for third place, Citibank defeated YIGH Metro Stars, 105-86.
