Perlas stays clean

BANKO-Perlas and Petro Gazz, bracing for their all-important showdown next week that has a lot of Final Four implications, posted all-important victories in the PVL Reinforced Conference tripleheader today at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Perlas Spikers overcame a second set hump to repulse BaliPure-National University, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, to stay perfect in the quarterfinals.

The Angels played with sense of urgency to beat also-ran Iriga-Navy, 25-19, 25-14, 25-19, for their third straight quarters win.

BanKo-Perlas and Petro Gazz will clash on Wednesday in a potential tiebreaker for the last semifinals berth.

The two squads, along with defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force, are locked in a three-way race for the two remaining Final Four slots.

If the Perlas Spikers and the Angels ended up tied with the Lady Warriors at 4-1, with the team with the highest tiebreak after the quarters clinching the third semis spot while the two others will dispute the last seat via playoff.

BanKo-Perlas was able to step up its game in the third and fourth set after the young Water Defenders were able to steal the second frame.

“Nag-kumpiyansa yung mga players ko. Sabi ko sa kanila, huwag silang magkukumpiyansa kasi kahit down yung kalaban namin, mga bata iyan, agresibo iyan eh. Lalaban at lalaban iyan," said Perlas Spikers coach Dong dela Cruz.

Kia Bright came through with 24 points, 15 digs and five excellent receptions, Jutarat Montripila tallied 14 points
