THE Undead. Mugen. Bad Boy. The Mammoth. The Iron. The Twister. Cego. The Outlaw. Asintado. Supremo.
Universal Reality Combat Championship’s biggest stars with exciting nom de guerre take centerstage in the URCC Global: Colossal mixed martial arts competition at the Araneta Coliseum on Sept. 29.
The main attraction in the one-day event presented by Filipino-Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Alvin Aguilar and URCC Global chairman Arnold Vegafria will be the featherweight clash between top Filipino pick Mark “Mugen” Striegl and South Korean fighter Do “The Undead” Gyeom Lee.
Striegl and Lee figured in a nasty staredown that only heightened their growing animosity and vowed to destroy each other on fight night during the media presentation at Annabel’s along Tomas Morato Ave. last Wednesday.
“We’ll settle everything on the cage on Saturday. It will be a good fight but I predict a first round finish. Bakbakan ito,” said Striegl, the 30-year-old Filipino-American fighter who has racked up a handsome win-loss record of 19-2 since 2009.
“He (Lee) is a tough opponent, but he doesn’t have anything I haven’t seen before,” said Striegl, who is now working with Brandon Vera’s trainer, George Castro of Alliance MMA
Lee agreed that it will be worth the money to pay and watch the fight, but disagreed with Striegl’s prediction.
“I will make sure the outcome will be in my favor,” said Lee, who has been unstoppable since capturing the URCC featherweight title by stopping Drex Zamboanga back in 2015.
Both Striegl and Lee agreed to make an MMA movie if offered, but prefer to focus on Saturday’s fight.
Four other championship fights featuring URCC’s veterans and rising superstars will spice up the blockbuster presentation aptly titled Colossal.
Caloy “Bad Boy” Baduria of Elorde Promotions and Sugar Ray “The Mammoth” Estroso will collide in the inaugural heavyweight title fight.
Also in the blockbuster promotions are the flyweight title fight between Ernesto “The Iron” Montilla of D’ Elements MMA and Jiar “The Twister” Castillo of Hitman MMA; the welterweight title bout between Afonso Celso “Cego” Dos Silva of Brazil and John “The Outlaw” Adajar of Hitman MMA; and the women’s flyweight bout between Geri Bulaong of th Philippines and Ji Yeon Seon of South Korea.
Other fights will pit Arvin “Asintado’ Chan of Warfit/Checkmat against Jess Dan “Supremo” de la Pena of Freestyle MMA in welterweight division; Denice Zamboanga of the Philippines against Eubin Cho of South Korea; Dave Banguigui against Joe Vincent So in flyweight; and Junryl Cago against Ariel Oliveros in strawweight.
An added attraction is the Philippines vs Korea 3x3 fight featuring Brian Paule, Mark Palomar and Patrick Dos Santos against Seung Hae Lee, Bum Suk Jang and Jun Bae Kim.
Aguilar said URCC’s expansion to a URCC Global format is part of his continuing dream.
“Now we have already expanded to China and the US. More events in other areas around the world will follow.”
URCC Colossal is presented by Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCO) and sponsored by Phoenix Petroleum, Bench, Red Horse Beer, Cobra Energy Drink and SEDA Hotel.
