Disyembreasais is Lakambini champ

September 21, 2018

DISYEMBREASAIS made her move in the final 200 meters and pulled off a two-length victory at the 2018 Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) ‘Lakambini Stake Race’  at the Manila Jockey Club's San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite last Sunday.

With a guaranteed top purse of P900,000 on the line, Disyembreasais played it patiently by following her game plan before releasing a burst of speed at the last 200  as she emerged queen over her rivals in the stakes race open to locally born 3-year-old fillies that have already participated in a past Philracom race.

It was all part of the plan, according to winning jockey Jordan (JB) Cordova after he steered the Alfredo R. Santos-owned filly to its second stakes race victory of the year -- six in total in 2018 -- after clocking in with 1:14 in the race offering a guaranteed total prize of P1,500,000.

“Ang naging diskarte namin nu'ng trainer (Edwin M. Vittali), antabay lang kami sa likod, hanggang sa magrekta, dire-diretso na pagdating sa dulo,” said Cordova after the 1,600-meter race.

“Si Disyembreasais, maasahan sa mga ganyang distansiya, lalu na kapag may nagbabakbakan sa harapan. Hayan ang gustong-gusto niya, nakasunod lang siya,” added the 36-year-old jockey.

The James Albert Dichaves-owned Ava’s Dream and rider JP Guce ended up in second and settled for the runner-up purse of P337,500, while Polilio Island, ridden by JA Guce and owned by Wilbert Tan, came in third with P187,500.

Talitha Koum, owned by George R. Raquidan, with RG Fernandez on the reins, placed fourth and pocketed P75,000 after a quick lead right from the start but slowly faded in the stretch.

Philracom Chairman Andrew Sanchez was present to hand the trophies to the winners, led by AR Santos and trainer Vitalli, who received the Breeder's Purse of P60,000 on behalf of Disyembreasais winning breeder Leonardo M. Javier Jr.

Other winners of the 12-race Manila Jockey Club Inc. Sunday schedule were Above the Knee (Race 1), Sky Hook (Race 2), Wild Grass (Race 3), Reconstruction (Race 5),  I Love Jane (Race 6), Mighty Pride (Race 7),  Hot and Spicy (Race 8), Run and Gun (Race 9), Pride of Laguna (Race 10), Barrio San Jose (Race 11) and Brown Sister (Race 12).

Meanwhile, two big stakes race are coming in October – the 2nd Leg of the Philracom Juvenile Fillies and Colts Stakes Race on Oct. 14 and the Sampaguita Stakes Race set Oct. 28.

This will be followed by the Ambassador Eduardo M. Cojuangco Jr. Cup, MARHO Racing Event and 1st Leg of 3YO Open Challenge Series on Nov. 4, and the 3rd Legs of the Juvenile Fillies Stakes Race and Juvenile Colts Stakes Race on Nov. 18.
