Liwag, Marcos share limelight

BAGABAG,  Nueva Viscaya --  The 2017 Philippine Homing Pigeon Association (PHA)  North and Young Birds Series finally got underway last Nov. 6 with Romeo  Liwag and Resty Marcos taking opening lap honors.

Liwag and his PHA-17-1702691 -- a blue bar hen out of  Cham Tian Seng bloodline -- submitted a speed of 1,051.221  meter per minute  to clinch top honors in the Young Birds category.

Alexander Tang and Edison Yap  finished second and third, respectively.

Tang  and PHA-17-1701878 clocked 1,048.781 meter per minute for second place, while Yap and PHA-17-1700090 --  a blue check cock out of Maurice Mattheuws X Batenburg van De Merwe -- timed 1,048.070  meter per minute for third place.

Also making it to the Top 10 in the Young Birds class are Johnson Si, Harry Sy,  Diaz and Galang Loft,  Victor Tan, Emilio Romero, Kerby Chua and Egay Yap.

In the Old Birds category,   Marcos  and PHA-17-1710396 --  a blue check white flight hen out of Magnificent Line/Jose Torres X Vicente Ngo bloodline  -- took first place with a  speed of 1,056.007  meter per minute.
Edison Yap and PHA-17-1717012 – a blue check white flight cock out of  Ad Fortuin X Batenburg van De Merwe --  came in second with a speed of 1,055.477  meter per minute.
Dian and Galang Loft and PHA-17-1710420 -- a brown hen out of  Japan X Lazatin bloodline-- wound up with a time of 1,046.365  meter per minute.
Joining them in the Top 10 Old Birds  are Diaz and Galang Loft, Diaz and Galang Loft,  Paul Ung, Resty Marcos,   Paul Ung, Kerby Chua  and Diaz and Galang Loft.
In  his report to PHA president Jaime Lim,  PHA racing chairman  Nelson Chua said a total of 789 out of 1,785 birds from  76 lofts were clocked in the Young Birds category, and  254 out of 517  birds from 39 lofts were clocked in the Old Birds class.
Birds were released at  6:35 a.m. with the distance at approximately  230 kilometers.
A total of six legs are in the PHA calendar for the North Series, with the second leg scheduled on Sunday, Nov. 12.
