YOUNG and promising tennis players from Kalibo, Aklan ruled four of nine age categories at the recently -concluded 4th leg of this year's Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship Series in Dumalag, Capiz with the Sacapano siblings leading the way as Averlle Sacapano topped the girls' 16 and under and 18 and under groups while younger sister Abigail Lenny Sacapano won the 12 and under group.
Averille posted easy wins over her opponents, beating 14and under champion Althea Rose Martinez 8-4 in the 16 and under finals and had an even easier time winning over Jaye Lyndsey Israel, 8- for the 18 and under title, Abigail meanwhile blanked Ilo-ilo bet Krisha Lasafin 8 - 0 in the championship match in the 12 and under.
Aklan native Martinez likewise had a romp over Iloilo’s Avril Andrea Suace, winning 8-2 for the 14 and under crown in the tournament supported by Dunlop as the official ball.
“We are committed to our support for Philippine tennis despite recent developments in PHILTA and we will continue with this nationwide and year round Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship Series, now on its 11th year already of producing young tennis champions,” said Cebuana Lhuillier President/CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.
In the boys’ side, there were new faces that emerged like Aklan's Al Francis Andrade won ruled the 18 and uder final against another Aklan bet Gabriel Martinez, winning 8 - 2 ; Iloilo's Marben Earl Mosquera topped the 16 & under, beating JJ Chrysler Gazo, also from Iloilo, with a close 8 - 6 victory and making up for his loss in the 14 and under finals where Roxas City's Angelo Mejia beat him 8-5 for the crown.
Other winners in the boys' side were Kalibo;s Nino Ronald Rey as he defeated Ilo-ilo bet JM Reguerra 8 - 2 in the 12 & under finals while Roxas City's Derrick Jan Guillano swept Aleeva Feone Suace 5 - 3 , 4 - 0 for the 10 & under title.
This year's series will have a total of 46 legs.
