ILOCOS Norte Governor Imee Marcos leads around 150 local executives and sports leader- participants from all over the country in today’s Women in Sports Congress of the Philippine Sports Commission at the Century Park Hotel.

Commissioner in-charge for women in sports Celia Kiram explained that this assembly’s aim is to gather local women leaders and executives to acquaint them on issues about women in sports .

“We hope that with this, we could help them align their programs with the PSC women in sports agenda.”

Governors, mayors, sports excutives and leaders are expected to participate in the two-day event which will be conducted by Gabriela Muller-Mendoza, a Mexican communication and female leadership specialist based in Switzerland, who has worked with the International Olympic Committee on several projects as well as with a number of International Sports Federations.

Mendoza arrived in the country yesterday and immediately went to work with the PSC working group on the project. She expressed her excitement to meet and work with Filipina leaders.

Referring to the scheduled activities, which includes several sessions on Leadership Development, Kiram commented that “I hope the seminar brings out the best in our women leaders, so they can continue to inspire those who look to them for guidance and inspiration.”

Kiram also intimated that this coming July, another women in sports congress is scheduled to be conducted, this time for our indigenous women leaders.

“Our target is to gather 500 women leaders in Bongao, the capital of Tawi Tawi,” said Kiram.

The PSC regularly conducts activities on women in sports, as mandated by law through Republic Act 9710, also called the “Magna Carta of Women”.

Kiram furthered that “it is this very law that we hope our women leader-participants will keep in mind when they plan their sports programs.”
