JERON Teng produced his second consecutive 30-point game as Flying V grabbed the early lead with a 119-105 drubbing of Gamboa Coffee Mix in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Asserting himself right from the get-go, Teng dropped 20 of his 35 points in the first two periods as the Thunder zoomed to a 60-48 lead and led by as much as 19 points in the second half.
“Just like the usual Jeron, he carried us, especially in the first half,” said coach Eric Altamirano after Flying V improved to 2-0 in the conference.
Teng followed up his 33-point outburst in a 86-84 win over Cignal in the opener. The two-time UAAP champion has averaged 34 points in two contests so far.
Later, Cignal led from wire-to-wire to overpower Zark's Burgers, 107-69, for its second win in three contests.
Raymar Jose delivered a double-double effort of 12 points and 17 rebounds to support Andreas Cahilig, who led the Hawkeyes with 15 points in a reserve role.
Davon Potts and Jason Perkins each had 10 points for the Hawkeyes, who led by as much as 43 points.
Altamirano, however, was not satisfied with the win, as the Thunder gave up a conference-high of 104 points against the Coffee Lovers, who dropped at 1-1 along with the Jawbreakers.
“They (Gamboa) scored more than a 100 points. There were spurts that we played good defense pero overall, we didn't really played good defense. They scored at will,” said Altamirano.
Eric Salamat contributed 20 points, four assists and four steals while Gab Banal added 15 points and eight rebounds for Flying V.
Val Acuña paced Gamboa with 22 points while Mark Sarangay added 18 markers, 17 rebounds and three assists.
