HERE’S good news to all Filipino swimmers.

The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) has designated the 3rd Splash N Dash A-B-C invitational swimming championships in Antipolo City next month to be one of the qualifying tournaments for the Philippine swimming team to the 2019 Summer Universiade in Napoli, Italy.

The 3rd Splash N Dash competition is scheduled on July 14-15 at the Bosay Resort swimming pools in Antipolo.

“This will be a good opportunity for our talented swimmers to show their wares and possibly, earn a slot to the FESSAP-supported Filipino delegation to the Napoli Universiade,” said Emer Matienzo of the FESSAP Aquatic Club.

“Splash N Dash is open to all school teams and clubs regardless of affiliation,” added Matienzo, a retired Physical Education teacher.

FESSAP, headed by honorary president David Ong and president Baldomero Estenzo, is the only Philippine body recognized by FISU (Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire) since 2009.

Under FESSAP, the Philippines participated in the Summer Universiade in 2011 in Shenzhen, China; 2013 in Kazan, Russia; 2015 in Gwangju, Korea, and 2017 in Taipei.

The Filipinos made history in all four Universiade participation with GM Wesley So winning the gold in chess in 2013 Kazan Universiade; and Samuel Thomas Morrison bagging the silver in taekwondo in 2011 Shenzhen and Jomar Balangui pocketing the silver in wushu in 2017 Taipei.

The Philippines, thru FESSAP, also hosted the FISU-World University Cycling Championships in Tagaytay City in 2016 and FISU-World University Golf Championships in Lubao, Pampanga last month.

Meanwhile, FESSAP will also hold the Philippine National Sports Coaching Conference at the Bosay Resort on Aug. 24-26.

The three-day conference will be held in cooperation with the Philippine Aquatics Sports Coaches Association, Inc. (PASCAI) and TYR Philippines.

Topics to be covered are Principles of Sport Coaching, Principles of Sport Management, Principles of Sports Behaviour, Principles of Sport Teaching and Principles of Sports in Physical Training.

Sports coaches, physical education teachers, swimmers, sports-involved parents and sports enthusiasts are invited to attend.
