FOUR out of four for Diliman College.
Led by Adama Diakhite and MJ Enriquez, Diliman College brought down NCAA member Jose Rizal University, 75-64, to secure its fourth straight win in the 2018 Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) summer basketball tournament
at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City last May 20.
Diakhite asserted his superiority on bpth ends of the floor and finished with 31 points and 15 rebounds for the Blue Dragons, who moved within a win of completing a sweep of the first round of the eliminatons.
Enriquez added 17 points with four triples and John Mahari contributed nine points for Diliman, which rallied from an early 10-point deficit to turn the game around.
Kristopher Torrado handed out a game-high 12 assists.
“This is a good win for the team. The boys have shown they can rise above the challenge and overcome an early 10-point deficit to win the game,” said Diliman coach Rensy Bajar after the game.
Bajar, also the first assistant coach of Globalport Batang Pier coach Pido Jarencio in the PBA, said the boys did not give up even after falling behind and slowly worked their way back into the game with Diakhite and Enriquez leading the way.
“The win was a good test of character of the team.” added Bajar, who thanked both Sen. Nikki Coseteng of Diliman College and Jerome Ngo of Gerry’s Grill for their continued support to the team.
“Sen. Coseteng, team manager Jerome Ngo and assistant team manager Wilson Sia have given the players the proper training and motivation,” explaimed Bajar.
Befopre beating JRU, Diliman College also won over PBA D-League member Centro Escolar University, 69-55, last May 9; Olivarez College, 72-69, last May 12;and UAAP member National University, 79-54, last May 16.
Diliman also defeated University of Perpetual Help, 80-60, in the Fr. Martin Cup last April 29.
