IF Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson would have his way, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao should fight only one last time, possibly against American legend Floyd Mayweather, and then retire for good.

“If you ask me, that’s my one and only advise to him now. Wala ng iba,” said Singson when asked by PTV 4’s Arianne Mallare during an interview aboard his private yacht Happy Life at the Manila Yacht Club in Pasay.

“Manny has everything now. As a boxing champion, he has nothing to prove anymore. Kumpleto na  siya. Dapat na tumigil,” added Singson, a close friend and adviser of the Filipino boxing hero.

Singson, who was elected as president of the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) recently, claimed Pacquiao should hang up his gloves while he still has the edge.

“Ayokong matulad si Manny sa iba pang mga magagaling na boksingero na patuloy pang lumaban at natatalo lang,”  recalled Singson.

The  77-year-old sportsman-politician said there are a lot of boxers lining up to get the chance to fight Pacquiao, but Mayweather is the only one qualified.

“Madaming gustong lumaban pero hindi naman uubra. Si  Mayweather lang talaga.”

Singson also downplayed suggestions that Pacquiao’s farewell fight be held in the country like the Miss Universe Pageant which he helped organize in 2017.

“Masyadong magastos. Unless madami mag-sponsor, pwede siguro,” he admitted.

Talks of a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch surfaced recently after the 41-year-old American fighter announced he will come out of retirement to battle the Filipino champion later this year.

“I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year, another 9 figure pay day on the way,” Mayweather posted on Instagram.

A video accompanying the post showed Mayweather and Pacquiao talking to each other at an event but their exact exchange of words could not be heard clearly.

Mayweather did not give any other details about the rematch of their 2015 fight, which he won comforatably on points.

Mayweather earned an estimated $220 million from his first fight with Pacquiao, which finally took place after years of on-off negotiations.

Pacquiao earned around $100 million from the contest.

Mayweather retired later in 2015 after his 49th victory but returned to the ring last year for a lucrative victory over mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor.

Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 knockouts) made a return to the ring in July after a one-year absence, defeating Lucas Matthysse  of Argentina in the seventh round in Kuala Lumpur.
