QUEZON City leaned on the 1-2 punch of former Batang Gilas mainstays Miguel Tan and Ryan Yu to roll back Caloocan, 80-58, and join opening-day winners in the 2018 Metro Manila Sportsfest basketball tournament at the San Juan gym last Sunday.
Tan asserted himself with a double double of 23 points and 20 rebounds, while Yu, son of Rain or Shine co-team owner Raymund Yu, added 16 points for the Stars, who unleashed two long scoring splurges in the second and third quarters to win pulling away.
With Tan and Yu leading the way, the Stars outscored the Supremos, 39-18, in the middle quarters on the way to lopsided victory in this tournament which has Mobile App ng Bayan Barangay 143 and Synergy 88 as major sponsors and Spalding as the official ball.
In other opening-day matches last Sunday,Pateros survived a big scare to beat Pasay, 60-57, behind Julian Jugo’ s 25 points and Metro Manila Development Authority drew balanced scoring to subdue host San Juan, 59-55.
