THE UAAP yesterday called off its men's basketball games scheduled today at the Filoil Flying V Centre due to inclement weather.
“As Typhoon Ompong ravages Northern Luzon, and affecting Metro Manila as well with heavy rains, tomorrow's games (September 16, 2018) will likewise be reset to another date. Thank you and stay safe,” said Season 81 Board of Managing Directors president Nilo Ocampo in a statement.
In what supposed to be the league's first foray at the San Juan arena this season, the cancelled matches were University of the East-National University and University of Santo Tomas-University of the Philippines.
A total of four men's and two women's games were washed out this weekend.
Defending champion Ateneo was about to play Far Eastern University, while Adamson was set to take on La Salle in the men's division yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Also called off was the women's morning matches between University of Santo Tomas and La Salle and titleholder National University and Adamson, also at the Big Dome.
The league earlier announced the postponement of the opening weekend of the chess tournament at the UST's Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The opening round will now be played on Wednesday.
