The PYD 18-under team basketball team celebrates in Singapore.

ALMOST but not enough for the Philippines.

The Philippines, represented by the Pinoy  Youth Dreamers, settled for first  runner-up junior after losing  to HKBA  Hong Kong team in the  championship match of the 7th  Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup at the United World College  (UWC) in Singapore recently.

Handled by PYD founding president-coach Beaujing Acot and assistant coaches Vengie Gabales and Migs Geronimo,  the Filipinos finished with a 3-2 win-loss record in the centerpiece 18 years old and under tournament.

The  PYD dribblers suffered an  opening-day loss to  host team Dover Phoenix but pulled off  back-to-back wins over SMABA Indonesia and  Hwa Chong-China in elimination round.

The Filipinos made it three wins in a row by beating SSA- Vietnam in crossover semis.

“We’re happy with the performance of the boys. They did well against their taller and stronger foreign counterparts,” said Acot.

“More than winning, the boys learned valuable lessons and experience which would only make them better individually and as a team," added Acot.

Acot thanked Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Smart Communication Inc., Buddy's Pancit Lucban, Regent Food Corporation, Batis Armin Hotel and Resort, Hygienix Alcohol Splash Corporation, JAMAN, Hook Up Clothing and Watches, H+Autoworks, Xpress Printing, Arceege Sportswear and Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City for their support to the team.
