THERE’S  life  after the PBA, after all.

John Ferriols of the Taguig Generals  was cited as World Balance “Player of the Week” in the  South Division  of the Metro League Open basketball tournament for  the period Oct.14-20.

Ferriols, who was selected No. 12 pick overall by FedEX  during the 2003 PBA Draft and played for  six other PBA teams in 14 years in the pro league,  starred in  the Generals’ back-to-back  victories over Marikina and Pateros  to help his team  grab the top spot   with  a 4-2 record in the South Division and advance to the  semifinals of the tournament organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The  44-year-old standout from Davao City, who also earned MVP honor  in the inaugural MBA season in 1998,   edged out Jahn Ryan Magbanua of San Juan and Lester Dickens of Las Piñas for top honor  in the event which also has Synergy 88, San Miguel Corp., World  Balance, Frabelle Foods,  Summit   Mineral Water, Alco Plus, Gerry’s  Grill, Excellent Noodles, glitter.ph,  SM Super Malls and Nature’s Spring  as  major  sponsors.

Ferriols scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals in Taguig’s 84-73 win over Marikina and followed it up with  eight points, 11 rebounds, four assists, one steal and  one shot block each in the Generals’ 85-67 rout of Pateros,

Jayford Rodriguez of Manila clinched the same honor in the North Division.

Rodriguez, a second round pick of Rain or Shine in the 2013 PBA Draft, had the biggest impact in the All-Stars’ back-to-back wins over Quezon City and San Juan.

That enabled  Manila to  assume solo lead in the North Division standings with a 5-1 record in the 10-team tournament which  has “mobile app ng bayan” Barangay 143 as  presentor, Spalding  as  the official   ball and Team  Rebel  Sports as official outfitter.

Rodriguez, who beat teammate Almel Orquina, Aldrin Ligon of Caloocan  and Gianne Paulo Rivera and Erwin  Sta. Maria of Valenzuela,  had  a team-best 19 points in their win over Quezon City

Games resume tomorrow (Tuesday ) at the Hagonoy Sports Complex in Taguig with Manila, also already assured of a place in the division semis, eyeing a fourth straight win at the expense of winless Las Piñas at e 4 p.m.

Quezon City and Valenzuela battle for solo second place in the North Division  at 5:30 p.m., and Taguig  hosts  Parañaque in the 7 p.m. third game in the South.
