Key Altas cager back in harness

September 15, 2018

STRUGGLING University of Perpetual Help System Dalta will have ace guard Edgar Charcos back when action in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament resumes next week at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Charcos hyperextended his right knee in a 77-84 loss to College of Saint Benilde last Aug. 24.

The Altas went 0-2 during his absence.

Charcos was supposed to make his return yesterday in the Perpetual Help-San Beda match, but the league on Thursday canceled the tripleheader due to Typhoon “Ompong”, giving him more time to fully recover.

Instead, Charcos will suit up when the Las Piñas-based school takes on Arellano University on Tuesday.

Charcos was sidelined when the Altas lost to the Chiefs, 72-76, at the end of the first round last Aug. 28.

With a 5-5 record in fifth place, Perpetual Help is trailing joint third placers Letran and St. Benilde (7-4) by one-and-a-half game in the race for the last semifinals berth.

A transferee from University of the East, Charcos averaged 17 points in eight games - third best behind reigning MVP CJ Perez (21.1) and Nigerian Prince Eze (18.5). He is currently fifth in assists with 3.9 per contest and second in steals with 1.9 per game.
