Fatima, AMA in easy wins

OUR Lady of Fatima University relied on Miguel Bryan Cabrera and  Christopher Essomba  to roll back Holy Angel University, 85-69, and gain a share of the lead with  defending champion St. Clare College-Caloocan in the  NAASCU Season 18 basketball tournament at the RTU gym.

Cabrera finished with 19 points while Essomba added a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Phoenix, who outscored the Guardians, 23-5, in the payoff period to win pulling away.

Cabrera also had eight assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Ralph Emerson Rivera-mentored Phoenix, who posted their second straight win.

Mark Tuncol and Carlo Candelaria paced Holy Angel with  17 and 12 points,  respectively.

In other results, AMA University  downed Manuel Luis Quezon University,  98-77;  St. Francis of Assissi  College  humbled De La Salle Araneta  University,  87-68;  Enderun Colleges routed Rizal Technological University, 72-54; and City University of Pasay outlasted  National Teachers College, 88-84.

The  Mark Herrera-coached Titans rode on Alvin Fuentes ( 24 points) and JR Barde (23 points) to beat the Stallions and launch their campaign on a high note.

The Titans took their biggest lead in the game at 43-14 despite  limited minutes to Carlo Garcia,  who rolled his ankle.

SFAC unveiled  import Raoul Oduo of Benin to repulse DLSAU and open its campaign on a winning note.
