Actor-director Carlo Maceda explains the format of the coming CBA tournament during the media launch at the Icon Hotle in Timog Ave. the other day.

SPORTS, entertainment and more.

These are the main ingredients of the newly-formed Community Basketball Association (CBA) which will hit the road starting next month.

Carlo Maceda, a popular actor-model and the main proponent of the CBA, said the league will cater even to the ordinary people in the barangay who love sports, especially  basketball.

Maceda said he has already invited PBA legend Pido Jarencio to serve as the commissioner.

“The MBA is a league for everybody. This is the answer to the prayers of ordinary people in the barangays  who dreams of playing basketball but do not get the chance in the big leagues,”  said Maceda during the media launch at the  Icon Hotel in Timog Ave., Quezon City.

Maceda,  an avid basketball player  himself  before  joining the movies in the 90s, said he is confident that the CBA will find its rightful place in  the basketball-crazy country teeming with leagues and tournaments even in the farthest barangays all over the country.

“We all love basketball. The Filipinos love basketball. Kahit saang barangay,  kahit saan siyudad,  kahit saan probinsya, may basketball,” said Maceda, who also revealed plans to bring in experts to manage the conduct of the tournaments professionally.

“This is where the CBA comes in. We  would like to give everybody the  chance to play basketball in a different setting and  differeant  atmosphere,” added Maceda.

But there’s more, according to Maceda.

“In the CBA, we will not only  bring  basketball closer to the people. We will also bring a fiesta-like  atmosphere  to  the city or barangay hosting the games,” he added.

“We will also bring live entertainment to the people, like “Battle of the Bands”,   concerts, singing and dancing  contests and inter-active games  with  attractive prizes from our sponsors  that will keep the people happy,”  said Maceda.

“But of course, basketball will be our centerpiece event,”added  Maceda.

An  added attraction  to teams and clubs    participating in the CBA is that all gameswill be shown on Facebook livestreaming and over IBC 13 for three consecutive nights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
