UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta rallied from 21 points to carve out a thrilling 78-76 win over San Sebastian and regain its winning ways in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Prince Eze tapped the ball in from an AJ Coronel pass in the final 0.5 seconds, sending the Altas gallery that packed the UPHSD Gym into delirium.
“I was really going into Prince (Eze) on that last shot,” said Perpetual coach Frankie Lim.
The victory propelled Altas to solo fourth with a 3-2 card.
Perpetual Help simply moved on from last week’s 77-91 defeat from the hands of undefeated Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Eze finished with 22 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks while Edgar Charcos added 18 points, five boards, three steals and two assists for the Altas.
It was a tough loss for the Stags, who fell at 3-5, as they erected a 39-18 lead behind Allyn Bulanadi but crumbled in the second half.
Bulanadi came through with 21 points, 12 boards and three steals, while Alvin Capobres chipped in 19 markers.
Charcos gave Perpetual Help its first lead, 62-61, with a fastbreak lay-up with 7:05 remaining that set up for the exciting finish.
In the juniors division. Mark Gallano had a solid all-around outing of 20 points, 14 boards, three blocks, two steals and two assists as Perpetual Help nipped San Sebastian in overtime, 70-64, to tie Arellano University in second place at 4-1.
