A HOUSE leader predicted yesterday that the May 14barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls will be used by the electorate to reject candidates who are perceived to be behind the illegal drug trade in the country.
Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe, president of the 46-strong Party List Coalition (PLC), said voters should reject all candidates believed to be involved in illegal drugs.
Batocabe stressed that the elections are the best audit against village officials who refuse to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign of President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte.
“They should be made answerable to our people this barangay election.
There can be no better audit than the people themselves,” said Batocabe.
“The drug issue should be the primordial issue in this elections,” said Batocabe.
Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, who chairs the House committee on dangerous drugs, pushed for government’s performance audit of its village officials.
“The DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) should set parameters in auditing the performance of barangay executives,” said Barbers.
