JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II yesterday vowed to sue opposition Sen. Risa Hontiveros for branding him “a reliable friend of criminal masterminds, extrajudicial killers and drug lords” and a “manufacturer and peddler of fake news.”
“There is no need to study (the filing of a complaint against her). (It’s) very clear (that what she said was) defamatory. I saw and heard what she said,” Aguirre said.
“You could see libel cases (being) filed against her,” he added.
Hontiveros just the other day called on Aguirre to step down after Justice Department prosecutors scrapped the criminal charges against Cebu businessman Peter Lim, confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and other high-profile drug suspects.
Calling him a “cook of fake cases,” the senator also lambasted him for granting provisional government protection to Janet Lim Napoles, the suspected brains of the P10-billion pork barrel racket.
According to her, Aguirre’s actions on several legal issues only proved that “the Duterte government’s war on drugs is one-sided and a complete fakery.”
