SPECIAL Assistant to the President Bong Go assured the Catholic Church that President Rodrigo Duterte is not their enemy.

SAP Go told the members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) general membership monthly meeting in Makati City the other night, President Duterte is very much concerned about the recent killings of Catholic priests.

Go added President Duterte is even willing to give police security escorts to priests to assure their protection after three priests were killed.

Fr. Richmond Nilo of Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija was shot and killed last June 10 while preparing for a mass; Fr. Rey Urmenta was assassinated by unidentified suspects in Calamba, Laguna and Fr. Mark Ventura was gunned down in Gattaran, Cagayan Valley while celebrating mass.

Secretary Go also claimed that even if President Duterte does not frequently hear mass, he practices the teachings of God through serving the people for he believes that what you have done to your neighbors, you also did to God.

He added the chief executive sometimes become critical of some priests for encroaching on his functions as the highest leader of the land instead of focusing on preaching to their parishioners the word of God.

Go also said instead of criticizing the Duterte government the clergy must concentrate on spreading the word of God to the Catholics and leave President Duterte to do his mandate as the highest leader of the land.

Secretary Go also underscored to the KBP members the true sentiments and plans of President Duterte for the betterment of the country.
