PHILIPPINE Constitution Association (Philconsa) President Martin Romualdez yesterday hailed President
Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s “malasakit” to neutralize terrorists as a significant achievement in the
global fight against terrorism.

Romualdez said the deaths of terrorist group leaders Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute were due to
President Duterte’s strong determination to finish the five-month old Marawi City crisis.
“This is a huge victory in the global fight against terrorism. I know the President is a no
non-sense action man and very much determined to address the Marawi crisis. Kudos to him and his men
because they did a great job and some of them even sacrificed their lives,” said Romualdez as he also
praised Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Año,
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, and other national and
local leaders for working together with President Duterte to neutralize the Maute leaders.
“I salute our brave men and women who put their lives on the line to preserve the country’s
sovereignty, peace and order and defending the freedom being threatened by Maute terrorist group.
Salamat po sa inyong malasakit,” said Romualdez.
Isabela Rep. Rodolfo “Rodito” Albano III also lauded President Duterte, Lorenzana, Año, and
Bato for their victory against the Maute terrorists.
“I congratulate President Duterte, Defense Sec. Lorenzana, AFP Chief of Staff Año, and Gen.
Bato for showing strong will to neutralize the Maute leaders. The Chief Executive even went several
times to Marawi City to show support to the fight of uniformed personnel,” said Albano, a Majority
Leader before the 12-man House contingent to the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA).
“I am sure that our soldiers and policemen who sacrificed their lives during the war are now
smiling in heaven,” said Albano. “Hindi po nasayang ang kanilang sakripisyo para sa bayan.”
Deputy Speaker and Batangas Rep. Raneo Abu urged the public to “extend all the needed help we
can give to President Duterte in the war on terrorism so we will move forward for the greatness of the
“Their hard work and courage paid off. Congratulations to them for eliminating terrorist
elements in the country because evil people do not have a place in a civilized world,” said Abu as he
urged the people to “always be on guard.”

Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte, vice chairman of the House committee on national defense,
also commended President Duterte and the AFP for the sustained military offensive that led to the
deaths of Hapilon and Maute, which, he said would accelerate the resolution of the Marawi conflict and
further boost investor confidence in the Philippines.
“This is a welcome development and a testament to the decisive actions taken by President
Duterte as AFP commander-in-chief since the terrorist attack in May to resolve the conflict, maintain
peace and order in the South, allay investors’ security concerns, and prevent Mindanao from being an
Islamic State (IS) bastion in Asia,” said Villafuerte as he announced that the President was in
Camarines Sur Tuesday where he spearheaded the mass oath-taking of new Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-
Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) recruits led by Gov. Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte, 26 mayors and 70
percent of other elective officials, and opened a Federalism summit in the province.
Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo, who chairs the House committee on Metro Manila development,
commended the military brass for the noteworthy achievement after a hard struggle that resulted in the
loss of 162 lives of valiant defenders of the republic.
“I am one with the security forces in marking this milestone in their effort to liberate Marawi
City and restore normalcy in the peace and order situation of the land,” said Castelo.
“Freeing Marawi City from the clutches of the terror groups will also allow the Duterte
administration to start the long-delayed rehabilitation program for the devastated city.”
Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) party-list Rep. Jericho “Koko” Nograles said “the death of
Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute will lead to the surrender of the remaining forces” and help end the
martial law in Mindanao this December.
“I foresee Martial Law in Mindanao ending before Christmas. Afterwards, let us focus our
energies towards rebuilding Marawi and hope that we can heal the wounds of war. The next frontier is
BBL and Federalism. I pray that Congress will study these bills carefully and put lasting peace and
prosperity as the primary objectives,” said Nograles.
Samar Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento said “the death of Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon and looming
defeat of the remaining terrorists in Marawi City are true reminders that good will always triumph
against evil.”
“Although their death came at a heavy price and has left an indelible scar that would haunt the
people of Marawi for many years to come, it has also defined the character of our men and women in the
Armed Forces of the Philippines who unselfishly sacrificed their lives to liberate the city from these
mindless people,” said Sarmiento.
