THE Office of the House Secretary General has already transmitted to Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez the copies of the impeachment complaint filed against Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Juan Andres Bautista

House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas gave the House media a copy of the transmittal report received by the Speaker’s office last August 24.

“May we transmit the herein attached original copies of the Impeachment Complaint field by Atty. Jacinto Paras and Atty. Ferdinand Topacio against Chairman Juan Andres Bautsista of the Comelec,” the report of Secretary General Cesar Pareja said.

“The said Complaint, which was received by our office on August 23 was verified before the undersigned by the complainants upon a resolution of endorsement by Reps. Tolentino, Gwendolyn Garcia, Harry Roque Jr.,” it added.

According to Fariñas, after the transmittal, the Speaker of the House has 10 session days to refer the complaint to the committee on rules.
The rules committee, headed by Fariñas, has three session days to refer the complaint to the committee on justice, which has the sole jurisdiction over impeachment cases.
Fariñas said they plan to refer the complaint after the budget deliberation which they expect to finish by mid-September.
“But we can initially discuss it. Pag nabasa ko at may urgency naman at kung okey naman ang complaint I can immediately refer it. Para maka-set na agad ng date ang committee,” the House leader said.
The complainants accuse Bautista of violating the Constitution and betraying public trust when he misdeclared his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN).
The complainant said Bautista allegedly has unexplained wealth of P1 billion, as claimed by his estranged wife Patricia.
Patricia showed to media documents showing Bautista’s bank accounts, both peso and dollar, and properties like condominiums.
