PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has thrown his full support behind his most trusted aide, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, whose purported bid for a Senate seat has been gathering support from various sectors.

According to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, the lead convenor of the Ready Set Go! Movement that was launched in Manila on Wednesday, said Duterte made the remark during a meeting with journalists in Malacañang Tuesday night.

“The President said he will support SAP (Go) to the hilt,” said Andanar, who led thousands of government officials from the Cabinet, Congress, personal friends of Go and representatives from various non-government groups in calling for Go to run in next year’s senatorial elections.

During the full-packed launching, Go expressed elation and thanks over the spontaneous show of support by the people for his possible Senate run.

“I thank Secretary Andanar, my colleagues in government, friends and supporters for your kind gesture. Rest assured that my decision would be made known in time. I call on all of you to support our president at all cost. I will not leave him,” Go said in the vernacular.

“I would like to remain as your SAP, or senator and assistant to the president. Or SAP, senator and assistant to the people,” the president’s aide further said, drawing loud applause and cheers from the audience.
Go’s supporters started to fill up the venue as early as 10 a.m. Andanar came in around 11 a.m., assisted by Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco. Besides the two, Secretaries Hermogenes Esperon, Salvador Panelo, Alan Cayetano, Guiling Mamondiong, Silvestre Bello and several undersecretaries and assistant secretaries also attended the launching of the new movement.
A number of lawmakers from the House of Representatives and local government officials also came in to join the clamor for Go’s nod. Several artists and supporters from the movie industry also joined the clamor.
On Tuesday, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte first endorsed Go, describing him as someone who is an epitome of loyalty and uprightness. The younger Duterte said Go possesses the qualities of a great leader for showing the traits of being a good follower and servant.
The Ready Set Go! Movement is expected to hold future events aimed at finally convincing the Palace official to run in May 2019.
“His appearance before the Senate showed his mettle. The people witnessed his true character as he exemplified the qualities of a good leader. Someone who is true to core, upright, loyal and honest,” Andanar further stressed.
