TWO construction workers yesterday died in a tragedy that struck the Ayala Mall construction site in Bacolod City.
Police Regional Office 6 director Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag identified the fatalities as Doddy Boy Mallorca, 30, a resident of Manapla, Negros Occidental and Hercalo Abraham, 36, of Magsungay, Bacolod City.
Mallorca and Abraham were among the dozens of workers pouring cement on the 6th floor of the mall being constructed in Bgy. 8 when the makeshift platform they were standing on suddenly collapsed at 1:45 a.m. yesterday.
As a result, the two were submerged in the fresh cement.
Mallorca was immediately pulled out from the site and taken to the local hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Abraham, who was covered by cement, was recovered only around 6 a.m. on the same day. He died while being rushed to the hospital.
A police report said that the incident was only reported to the Police Station 2 of the Bacolod City Police Office around 6:45 a.m. yesterday.
Binag has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
