THE Department of Public Works and Highways has opened the widened Barkadahan Bridge in Taytay, Rizal.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar led the opening of the bridge last Friday.

“The 245-lineal meter bridge will benefit thousands of motorists utilizing Laguna Lake Highway, formerly known as C-6 Road, as an alternative route to the congested EDSA and C-5 Road,” he said.

Villar said that the widening of Barkadahan Bridge complements the improvement of Laguna Lake Highway which has become an alternative route of motorists specifically those going to the eastern part of Rizal, Marikina, Quezon City, and the western part of Metro Manila, including South Luzon Expressway or SLEX and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

“The additional one lane each in both the east and west direction can be used by motorists going to Taytay, Rizal area and South Luzon Expressway via Bicutan. Travel time from Barkadahan Bridge to Bicutan SLEX will be shortened from one hour to only 30 minutes,” he said.

The DPWH-NCR allocated a total of P114.35 million for the widening and improvement of Barkada-han Bridge which is a combined pre-stressed concrete girder and concrete flat slab bridge with 11 spans, 3.25 lineal meters east bank approach and 7.8 lineal meters west bank approach.
