Triker killed by speeding pick-up

A DRIVER of an improvised tricycle locally known as ‘kulung-kulung’ in Abulug, Cagayan was killed when
he encroached the other lane of the highway and in the process was hit by a speeding pick-up early
Saturday morning, police said.

Joel Gamutan, 48, meat vendor, was thrown off his vehicle and landed on his head on the
concrete pavement during the accident that took place at Lucban Bridge in Bgy. Lucban,  Abulug town at
6:30 a.m.
The victim died while being taken to the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center.
His wife Genalyn, 42, was taken to the same hospital.
Investigation conducted by the local police showed that the meat vendor suddenly encroached
the opposite lane while crossing the bridge and accidentally collided with the pick-up being driven by
Rey Steve Gonzalez, 60.
The collision threw the couple off their ‘kulung-kulung’ which was also crushed into pieces.
Villaluz and his passengers, Dr. Litamin Gonzalez, 58, and Annavie Amancio, 15, and Dann John
Amancio were unhurt in the incident.
The Toyota Hi-lux pick-up with conduction sticker VQ 8998 also incurred damage and was brought
to the Abulug Police Station along with the driver and his passengers for proper disposition.
