Trader, helper nabbed in entrapment

CAMP Malvar, Batangas -- A businessman and his helper fell into an entrapment operation conducted by joint police operatives inside a restaurant in  Bgy.  Balayong, Bauan, Batangas,  Police Public Information Office OIC Insp. Hazel P. Luma-ang said the other day.

Police identified the suspects as Marvin Catapang Manalo, 43, married, businessman, of Bgy. Poblacion, and Leo Rivadeniera delos Santos, 27, single, helper, of Bgy. Pinagkaisahan, both in Cuenca, Batangas.

Case officer PO2 Leody Mercado Panganiban said that at 7:24 p.m. on October 13, an unidentified caller talked with PO1 Michael Vincent Lonzame offering P30,000 in return for dropping the illegal drug-related case of one Rogelio delos Santos Cielo, who is detained at the Provincial Jail in Batan-gas City.

After the conversation, PO1 Lonzame, the arresting officer, immediately reported the matter to the Mabini police head Chief Insp. Randy Oliquino for appropriate action.

At about 10 a.m. on October 14, joint operatives of the Mabini MPS, led by Senior Insp. Rhyan Olave, Bauan MPS, led by top cop Chief Insp. Alfie Salang and personnel of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), led by Senior Insp. Kison, launched an entrapment operations against the two suspects at F. Baylosis Restaurant (the agreed meeting place demanded by the caller) in Bgy. Balayong, Bauan,  which resulted in their arrest.
The composite team confiscated the “bribe money” amounting to fifteen thousand pesos (P`15,000) (half of the agreed amount) and Manalo’s cellphone.
The two suspects were detained at station lock-up cell for proper disposition.
