‘STL-cabo’ nabbed, 14 others flee in Ecija raid

GAPAN CITY -- An alleged Small Time Lottery bet collector (cabo) was arrested while 14 of his cohorts allegedly escaped when police operatives raided an illegal bookie joint in the city last Friday night.

Nabbed was Rolando Palon, 53, STL collector, of Tramo Drive, Bgy. San Nicolas, this city.

City police commander Supt. Peter B. Madria said intelligence operatives led by PO3 Christopher Soriano swooped down on the bookie joint at 10:05 p.m. and caught the suspect and his 14 cohorts while allegedly drawing the winning combination.

Madria, however, said his men failed to arrest the 14 other  suspects, who were able to escape.

They were identified as Rosale Mendoza, Natividad Barlis, Joan Palon, Ricky Pereña, Benjamin Palon, Teresa Azarcon, Armie Palon, Angelina Santiago, Cindy Palon, Pia May Palon, Belinda Peralta, Rogelio Palon and Lerma Iglesias, all of Bgy. San Nicolas, and Jonathan Santos, of Bgy. Sto. Niño, this city.
During the raid, police seized various gambling parapharnelia, 14 STL identification cards and bet money amounting to P2,735.
Madria said the arrested cabo and the recovered pieces of evidence were immediately brought to the police station for proper disposition.
Charges for illegal gambling or violation of R.A. 9287 were slapped against the arrested suspect and his cohorts before the city prosecutor’s office here.
