Soldier, Maute terror killed in Lanao clash

A soldier and a remnant of ISIS-inspired Maute Terror Group were killed in an encounter on Sunday in Lanao del Norte.

Capt. Clint Antipala, spokesperson of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, identified the slain remnant of Maute Terror Group as Hadji Rasol Mambuay, alias Mercury. The slain soldier has yet to be identified.

Reports said the encounter occurred on Sunday in Bgy. Malimbato and Upper Dimauon, Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte.

Elements of 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, PNP Tagoloan and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) went to the area to arrest Dianalan Dimanatang Imam, alias Papayungan, and Hadji Rasol Mambuay, alias Mercury, and their men identified to be remnants of DI/Maute terrorists who were involved in the Marawi Siege.

However, when the team arrived in the area, they were immediately fired upon by the enemy that triggered a 10-minute encounter and the killing of Mercury and the recovery of an Elisco M-16 A1 rifle, a hand grenade, a short magazine, two handheld radios and several IED materials. One Army soldier was also killed.

Maj. Gen. Roseller Murillo, commander of Joint Task Force Zampelan, extended his condolences to the families of the fatalities.
