Robber dies in San Pedro encounter

AN unidentified robber was shot dead when he resisted arrest and fired his gun at pursuing police officers shortly after he robbed a construction worker before dawn yesterday in San Pedro City, Laguna.

The encounter occurred at around 12:30 a.m. along PNR Site, Bgy. Nueva, San Pedro City.

Prior to the incident, the suspect held up Edwin Mancia, 34, along Crismore Avenue, Elvinda Subdivision, Bgy. Fatima.

At gunpoint, the suspect took the victim’s Samsung cellular phone, a Seiko wrist watch, P2,100 and several IDs.

The victim reported the incident to PO1 Adaptante at a police box in front of Universal Bakery on national road.

During a follow-up operation, police saw the suspect running along PNR Site in Bgy. Nueva and was positively identified by the victim.

The policemen identified themselves and ordered the suspect to surrender peacefully but instead of heeding their advise, the suspect fired at the lawmen who were forced to return fire, causing the suspect’s death.

Recovered at the scene were a cal. .38 revolver and the items taken from the victim.
