CAMP Simeon Ola, Lagazpi City -- Suspected members of the New People’s Army riding a van and a motorcycle strafed with automatic weapons an isolated police community station in Motacandon, Gubat, Sorsogon, killing a policeman about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Police Regional Office 5 reported yesterday.

Gubat policemen identified in a report the fatality as PO2 Dennis Garbeda, who was rushed to a hospital in Sorsogon City but declared dead on arrival in the said medical facility.

It was reported that the rebels withdrew when police personnel at the outpost returned fire.

At 7:15 p.m., another group of suspected rebels also fired at the Bulan, Sorsogon Police Station, wounding PO2 Junie Cañeda.

The Sorsogon police reported that the Bulan MPS foiled the rebel attack after they were alerted by the earlier incident of rebel harassment in Gubat.
SPO2 Cañeda has been declared in stable condition after treatment of gunshot wounds at an undisclosed hospital in the province.
The PRO5 has continuously alerted police stations in Sorsogon after the NPA rebels vowed revenge for the death of a top NPA commander and members of the CPP-NPA-NDF Bicol regional party committee, who was killed in Trece Martires, Casiguran, Sorsogon, in an encounter with government troops in July this year.
