GOVERNMENT forces recovered an encampment of the New Poeples Army (NPA) after a series of encounters the other day in Kabuyao, Apayao.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) spokesman Col. Isagani Nato said the NPA encampment, which can accommodate 40 persons, was discovered in Sitio Sibayan, Bgy. Paco Valley, Kabugao.
NOLCOM troops, particularly from the 50th Infantry Battalion (50IB), under the Joint Task Force (JTF) “TALA”, encountered a group of rebels at 3 p.m. in Sitio Sibayan, triggering a 30-minute firefight.
No casualties were reported.
After 20 minutes, another 10-minute clash transpired between the reinforcing unit and eight withdrawing rebels.
Late afternoon that day, troops conducting pursuit operation discovered the NPA encampment with two guard posts.
Recovered at the camp were equipment and personal belongings of the rebels with high intelligence value, and customized bandoleers.
In line with this, Nato said NOLCOM will continue to conduct focused military operations with the support of the locals in the area, to prevent the NPA terrorists from harming the people and hampering the development in the community.
