Rape suspect shot dead in Bataan

CAMP Olivas, Pampanga  -- A rape suspect was killed in an armed encounter with the police last Wednesday in Bgy.  Camaya, Mariveles, Bataan.

Senior Supt. Christopher Abrahano, acting Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 3 chief, identified the suspect as Roel Castante, of legal age, a native of Leyte.

Around 3 p.m., CIDG operatives were serving a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Carlos Arguelles of Leyte against Castante for rape and acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act 7610.

But instead of surrendering, the suspect allegedly drew a gun and fired at the police officers, who fired back and killed him.

Recovered were a cal. .38 revolver that belonged to the suspect.

Meanwhile, CIDG-Bataan operatives chased and arrested one Renate Alicaba, 27, driver by profession, all the way to Antipolo City after he allegedly took P2,200 worth of soybean meal from La Filipina Uy Corp. in Bataan.
