CAMP Olivas, Pampanga -- For the first time the Central Luzon police recorded a zero casualties for victims of firecracker and stray bullet incidents in the region during the New Year celebration.
Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus said the “zero casualty” was attributed to the proper implementation of safe zones in the entire region.
Corpus was very grateful to the people of Central Luzon who fully cooperated with the desire of President Duterte for a peaceful celebration of New Year without any untoward incidents except for those who were injured with firecracker explosion.
According to Corpus 149 firecracker-related injuries were recorded with no fatal casualties as well as victims of stray bullets were reported during the said period.
He said these numbers could be attributed to the series of inspections conducted by the different police units among firecracker manufacturers and stores as well as the massive information drive and campaign initiated by the PNP, together with the different government agencies on the need to regulate or avoid the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices along with the widest dissemination of the “designated firecracker zones” imposed by the local government units.
Corpus commended his men who followed the instruction of PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in refraining from firing their service firearms during the New Year revelry.
“I commend the entire Central Luzon police force for a job well done, putting aside their personal convenience and comfort in exchange for a peaceful, safe and injury-free holiday celebration,” he said.
