PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Isidro S. Lapeña yesterday said they have stepped-up their investigation into the source of an estimated P50 million worth of shabu discovered inside a vehicle abandoned by its owner at the Matnog Port in Sorsogon last April 11.

The PDEA chief said that an initial check with the Land Transportation Office showed that the registered owner of the Toyota Revo which yielded some 10 kilograms of shabu is one Ramil Luna Mercado of Malabon City.
Investigators are checking if the name and address listed in the vehicle’s certificate of registration and official receipt are genuine.
Around 3:30 p.m. last April 11, members of the PDEA Regional Office 5, the Army and the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office, in coordination with the Coast Guard and the Philippine Ports Authority searched the vehicle which was found abandoned inside the Matnog port area.
When opened, the wagon yielded the drugs which were believed to have been abandoned by drug traffickers after they sensed the presence of officers busy searching for drugs, weapons and other contraband in the Matnog port.
Officials have aired suspicions that the drugs will be smuggled to Mindanao and other parts of Luzon.
