P162-M cocaine found floating at sea in CamSur

PEREZ, Quezon — Fishermen on Sunday night found around 27 kilos of cocaine in a plastic container floating at sea off Camarines Sur.

Reports from the Quezon Police Provincial Office said fishermen Jhony Merluza, 39; Ruben Yanela, 40; Ricky Coros, 36;  and Cecilio Amargo, 45, all residents of Bgy. Pinagtubigan Este,  this town fished out a blue plastic container at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The fishermen inspected the container and were surprised to find 27 packs of powdered substance believed to be illegal drugs.
The find was reported by the fishers to barangay captain Leonardo Reyes, who immediately called the Perez police station the following day.
Policemen responded and brought the suspected illegal drugs to the Quezon     Provincial Crime Laboratory Office in Lucena City for examination.    
The test yielded positive results for illegal drugs. The powdered  substance turned out  to be cocaine.
Police said each of the 27 packs contain more or less a kilo of cocaine.

With the prevailing street value of P6,000 per gram, the total amount of the retrieved cocaine was pegged at around P162 million.
