P11-M marijuana destroyed in Kalinga

CAMP Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Combined elements of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-
Cor), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera and the Philippine Army conducted massive
marijuana operations dubbed “Oplan Katribu” in Bgy. Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga, in nine marijuana
plantation sites at Mt. Chumanchil, Sitio Bato, Loccong, Tinglayan.

Destroyed were 40,850 fully-grown marijuana plants worth P11,040,000 during a two-day marijuana
eradication recently in an estimated land area of 6,900 square meters. During the operation, no
cultivator was arrested.
    
The implementation of “Oplan Katribu” was successful due to the concerted efforts of the PNP
Kalinga, PDEA-CAR, PDEA Region 2, Philippine Army and NBI Region 2 personnel with the active cooperation
of the municipal and barangay officials of Tinglayan, Kalinga.
    
PRO-Cor director Chief Supt. Elmo Francis Oco Sarona lauded the huge accomplishment of the
operating personnel and assured the public of more operations related to the campaign against illegal
drugs.
    
Sarona called on marijuana cultivators to instead maintain other livelihood project they learned
from the LGUs and NGOs as an alternate source of their livelihood to help in the maintenance of peace
and order in the region.
    
He also directed all unit commanders to strengthen police operations and intensify intelligence
build up against personalities involved in illegal drugs and put them behind bars.
