CABANATUAN CITY -- A new provincial police director in Nueva Ecija was installed in simple and hastily-called turnover rites held at the provincial command here on Wednesday.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Eliseo T. Tanding, who served the province for one year and six days, was replaced by Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete, erstwhile police commander of the Parañaque city police.

Rosete’s installation was presided over by Senior Supt. Rhoderick C. Armamento, chief of the Police Regional Office 3 directorial staff, who represented Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus during the last day of filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2019 midterm polls.

Tanding’s sudden relief came as a major surprise as it was implemented eight days after the presentation of the Nueva Ecija police’s accomplishments on their Oplan Katok operations last Oct. 9 where they showcased a total of 486 assorted weapons, including four guns owned by slain Catholic prelate Fr. Richmond Nilo that were seized and kept for safekeeping in line with the government’s intensified campaign against loose firearms.

Rosete, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy “Patnubay” Class of 1995, was the Parañaque city chief of police, who solved the January 4 “porridge robbery” staged by four helmet-wearing suspects on a 24-hour fast-food store after he was explicitly ordered by then-chief of the National Capital Region Police Office and now PNP chief Director-General Oscar Albayalde to solve the crime within two days or he would be relieved from his post.

Sources said Tanding was relieved after he allegedly failed to implement a major revamp of station commanders in the province who have exceeded the normal two years tour of duty.
