THE vice mayor of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental and her husband yesterday surrendered to Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 director Chief Supt. John Bulalacao.
Vice Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo and her husband Felix Mathias Segundo appeared before the office of General Bulalacao in Bacolod City yesterday morning.
The couple surrendered after La Carlota City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 63 Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez issued warrants of arrest against them for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and illegal possession of explosives.
Record showed that the couple were arrested last December at a police checkpoint in Moises Padilla town.
Recovered from them were three .45-caliber pistols and ammunition, including two grenades.
On the charges of illegal possession of firearms, the judge recommended bail of P200,000 each, while the charges of illegal possession of explosives were deemed non-bailable.
Bulalacao said the couple’s move to surrender showed that they respect the rule of law and the justice system.
“We take their act of voluntarily surrendering as a manifestation of respect for the rule of law and justice system,” Bulalacao said.
“In the interest of due process, they shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court of law,” he added.
