POLICE on Sunday night arrested a municipal councilor of Pola, Mindoro Oriental and his driver while transporting an estimated P70,000 worth of illegally-cut coconut lumber at the Calapan City port, Police Regional Office 4-B director Chief Supt. Wilben M. Mayor said yesterday.

Mayor said that municipal Councilor Ancieto Villanueva, 53, and his driver John Denver Atienza, 29, failed to present any documents for transporting an estimated 8,000 board feet of coco lumber at the port in Bgy. San Antonio 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
The official said that the two were on board a truck (REA-114) when they were flagged down for inspection by members of the Calapan City Police Station and the local Coast Guard.
The two were placed under arrest and facing charges for violation of the forestry law, Mayor said.
