THE woman’s screams were probably loudest as her boyfriend first stabbed her. The shrieks likely became softer as the blade pierced her flesh over and over. Perhaps, she was already chillingly silent by the time her boyfriend knifed her for the 9th and last time.
The suspect who repeatedly stabbed his 25-year old girlfriend to death in Dipolog City was arrested by pursuing policemen after he figured in a motorcycle crash late morning Tuesday, police said.
Suspect Florante Julayli, 28, a resident of Purok Chrismus in Barangay Sicayab, Dipolog City was identified as the man who stabbed his girlfriend Geraldin Paler, 25, nine times in different parts of her body at 9:57 a.m. Tuesday.
The knife attack took place inside a boarding house in Purok Malapuson in nearby Bgy. Turno, said Police Regional Office 9 director, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis D. Licup.
Licup said a brother of the victim identified as Jefferson brought the woman to the Zamboanga del Norte Medical Center in the city where an attending physician pronounced her dead upon arrival.
The official said an investigation showed that the killing took place at the height of a heated argument between the couple. He said that shortly after stabbing her girlfriend repeatedly, the suspect who was wearing a black sleeveless shirt and a maroon short pants fled on board a black Rusi motorcycle.
The information prompted the local police to flash an alarm for the interception of the fleeing killer. Licup said the suspect was later arrested in Bgy. Minaog where he met an accident and was intercepted by officers who recognized him based on his description given by witnesses.
Licup said the suspect was identified by the brother of the victim while undergoing treatment at the same hospital where the woman was brought. He said that the knife used in the killing was also recovered.
The suspect was placed under arrest while being treated at the hospital and will be facing criminal charges, Licup said.
