Jeep dispatcher into drugs killed in clash

A jeepney dispatcher was killed by operatives of Drugs Enforcement Unit (DEU) in  an armed encounter during a buy-bust operation in Purok 2, Bgy. Soledad, San Pablo City, Laguna, Thursday night.

Police provincial director Senior Supt. Kirby John Brion Kraft identified the slain suspect as Rodel Torres, 52, of Purok 2, Bgy Soledad.

The suspect sensed that he was dealing with a police poseur-buyer so he took out a gun and fired at the officer, who returned fire, hitting him.

The suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds in the body, was brought to PPL Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team from Laguna PPO processed the crime scene and recovered a cal. 9mm with inserted magazine loaded with five live ammunition and a live ammunition in its chamber, five fired cartridge cases, a black belt bag belonging to the suspect containing 10 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu and several aluminum foils with residue of suspected shabu.

Likewise, a P1,000 buy-bust money, another P1,000 bill, two pieces of P500 bills and five pieces of P100 bills were recovered from the black belt bag of the suspect.

The body of the victim was transferred to Ace Funeral Parlor in Bgy. II-B, San Pablo City, for autopsy.
