INDANG, Cavite -- The local government here led by Mayor Perfecto Fidel is strictly implementing the ‘No Smoking’ in all public places effective Dec. 1, 2018 based on Municipal Ordinance No. 16 of Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Resolution No. 93 of 2017 and Executive Order No. 33 of 2018.
The LGU prohibited smoking in public places with fines and penalties imposed against violators.
For those below 18 years old, appropriate rehabilitation program will be conducted by the parents in cooperation with school guidance counselor or the social welfare and development office of the locality.
For 19 years old and above, violators will be fined P300 for the 1st offense; P1,000 for the second offense and P2,000 fine for the third offense or imprisonment of not more than 30 days or both, depending on the discretion of the court.
The LGU also created Smoke-Free Task Force to monitor and apprehend the violators of the smoking ban. The public is prohibited to smoke inside a public building or enclosed public places, including public vehicles. Public place of work or any duly designated smoking area is prohibited.
“Salamat po sa pagpapatupad ninyo ng batas na ito, makakabuti sa nakararaming mamamayan dito sa Indang. Nawa po ay magpatuloy ito hanggang sa tuluyan ng malinis ang hangin at ang ating kapaligiran,” commented a resident, identified as Dennis Telmo.
