Hot forest products seized in Aurora

BALER, Aurora -- Local Department of Environment and Natural Resources agents seized more than 3,000
board feet of assorted hard wood in two separate operations in the towns of Maria Aurora, Baler and

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) chief Atty. Ricardo Lazaro said
the Provincial Security Operations Group (PSOG), led by Geoffrey Librero, seized more than 2,000
board feet in Sitio Munting Gasang, Bgy. Zabali, following a tip from concerned citizens.
The hot lumber was believed to have come from watershed area, said Lazaro.
The Task Force PSOP also discovered 16 pieces of hard wood (252 board feet) at Aurora State
College of Technology (ASCOT) in Bgy. Zabali while conducting routine patrol.
During the operation, at least two persons were arrested. They were identified as Bernard
Quiap and Mike Esteves.
Charges of violation of Presidential Decree (PD) 705 were filed before the Provincial
Prosecutor Office against the culprits.
Last week, a total of 1,000 board feet of illegal lumber were seized by Task Force Community
Environment and Natural Resources in the towns of Dingalan and Maria Aurora.
Lazaro said the illegal lumber, consisting of hard wood, were loaded in four “kolong-
kolong”which  were abandoned by unidentified illegal loggers, who escaped upon seeing the arriving
raiding team.
Lazaro immediately ordered a probe into the reportedly illegal cutting of trees inside the
watershed areas.
