Funeral procession meets accident

A HANGING bamboo bridge in Mambusao, Capiz on Sunday collapsed causing 20 people attending a funeral
to plunge down the river, a Police Regional Office 6 report said yesterday.

All the victims suffered minor injuries and were sent home after getting emergency treatment.

Ten of the victims sustained bruises after they fell on the rocky part of the river while
others accidentally drank river water.

The victims were part of a funeral procession passing the bamboo bridge in Bgy. Pangpang Norte
on way to the town’s graveyard when the incident happened at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The bamboo bridge was the villagers’ shortest way to reach the town.

A victim told the police that luckily, the coffin being carried by family members had just
past the viaduct when the bamboo bridge disconnected, sending funeral marchers to the river.

Members of the Mambusao Municipal Police Station and other local residents brought the victims
to the Mambusao District Hospital for treatment.
